Description
I made this tatreez design during the darkest days of the year, mid-December in the northern hemisphere. After the longest night, we know the light will slowly start creeping back into the mornings and the evenings. ‘Solstice’ is a tatreez pattern inspired by the dark winter days and the return of the light that tells us even a glimmer of hope is enough to keep us going. It’s also inspired by my friend Iyas, a solar energy engineer from North Gaza, who is displaced in Gaza and supporting his younger brother and sick mother. Despite the awful hardships, he is always a ray of light.
All proceeds from the sale of this pattern go to families in Gaza.
SKILLS NEEDED for the decoration:
– basic fallahi tatreez / cross-stitch.
– blanket stitch.
– stitching with waste canvas.
About tatreez:
Palestinian tatreez is an embroidery tradition which has been passed down from mothers to daughters for generations. The geometric motifs are inspired by nature, the land, and domestic life in Palestine, and are often unique to particular towns and cities.
